This is a beautifully written story about a young country girl who marries a rich merchant. When she arrives in Amsterdam she discovers that all is not what it seems and she feels unhappy and confused by a husband who is always absent, a sharp-tongued sister-in-law, cheeky servants and a mysterious woman who sends her miniatures for her dolls house. Inside the back cover it mentions that the author was a drama student and there is certainly plenty of drama in this exciting story which I believe is based on real people and events in 17th century Amsterdam.
